All over the place [06 Aug 2006|10:28pm]
[ mood | curious ]

I had loads of rants and raves about everything from the war in Lebanon to the price of gas and my crappy postal system (which, *knock on wood* seems to be getting better...I think) to the weather and our cable outages......and so much more.

I'm too tired and sore to bother with it now.

So a small mail update - I've gotten a lot of things sent out that were very over due (like in the "months long" over due *blush*) and I've even been seeing my mail reach the proper destination in a few days again....finally.

I have been holding off for quite some time on the FMS package I still owe, due to the uncertainty of its arrival if I just let it go out there. I feel worse than I can say about bridey's having to wait on me, getting posted up as being "burned" (it may burn to be left hanging but it was NOT an intentional act of deceit, which is how I feel the term sounds), and having to remember her first trade as a less-than-stellar experience. :-( I finally feel comfortable enough with my postal service again to resend this to her now. I've been working on little extras all the while, and there will actually be two packages sent. Since I'm no longer able to participate in the community I've decided to toss in most of the "extra" things I'd picked up along the way (with possible future swaps in mind) even though they don't exactly fit the theme for which the package was intended. It's the least I could do for such a HUGE disappointment. I only hope she'll still enjoy what I send.

I've been making so much art lately it's insane. I think my hands will be stiff, swollen, and sore for the next month. I really need to contact that surgeon.... *groan*

There's a lot to share in my various artistic communities, but I'm so beaten down by the heat, my hands, and the deadlines I've put upon myself, that they'll have to wait until later this week, possibly even the weekend.

I've noticed Salisus and Scruffybeast are no longer active journals. If anyone knows what's up with them, or if they're reading this (i feel stalked, lol...j/k) pleeease send me a note and let me know things are ok? I've got some mail for them and had a few questions about some art stuff I think they'd best be able to answer for me. I just don't want to send stuff into the great wide open never to be seen again....ya know?

So now I'm off to scan, seal, and stamp more ATC stuff.

Happy arting to all! ^_~

Some progress [27 Jul 2006|11:23am]
[ mood | artistic ]

Small note/favour - *Please do not assume I've written you off if we've been in an outstanding trade...no matter how long it's been. Sometimes a little friendly "nudge" and reminder of what I owe is all it takes to jog my memory. Thank you for your patience.*

I'm struggling to dig far and deep into archives of trades and swaps, but WOW.....I've done far more trading than I realized. Not an easy task! I've sent some swap cards out and some old trades as well. I've been busy. It feels good to know I may actually see the end of this mess after all. I truly dislike being so behind in things. Especially when it's only partly my fault. =/

Apparently delivery confirmation is not offered for overseas packages. Something about many other places not being equipped to handle how it's processed or something. I happened to notice something last time I was in the post office though. There is registered mail, certified mail, and one other service that does include international shipping. It's all a bit more expensive than I care to endure on a regular basis; but for the few things I have right now that are a month (or more, in some cases) late I may try one of the less expensive of the bunch. It's the least I can do for those still waiting on me. *sigh*

I've made a few more art dolls lately. I'll have to make a picture post soon to show them off with some of the ATCs I've done for swaps. I have to edit a whole load of images from the last few months. (did i mention this summer kicked my tail?? oy!) They include things from Full Moon Swaps, too. I'm sure people are wondering where the heck I've gone off to by now. I keep forgetting to post my pics and description for the last swap I made. (my half being unbelievably overdue, btw *groan*)

Playing catch up is never fun....but I always do my best to go back as far as I can remember or track via records in order to fulfill my obligations. It's rare that I don't get something completed....eventually. However, I know of at least two, possibly three trades where I've tried every form of contact I know to reach (or locate) the other party and come up empty-handed. It's rather frustrating and all I can do is hope they're ok and nothing seriously wrong has happened. It's always possible.....and I hate to think the worst has happened to anyone. :-(

I have a new art doll CD to play with....and I think that's what I shall do - after a game of dominoes with the little one. ;-)

Everyone deserves recess time now and then.....

Pissed off at the postal service [13 Jul 2006|03:06pm]
[ mood | pissed off ]

For some reason (unknown to me) the post office held onto all of the mail I had going to places outside the US (and even some IN the states were affected). I asked why and all I got was a blank stare and a "canned" response about security and customs and needing proper forms. I was on the verge of telling them exactly what I think of the whole situation when the man I've dealt with for a number of years told me I could just slap the little green forms on the smaller, regular envelopes and call it done - for now.

Apparently there is a policy stating that folks now have to fill out forms for ALL mail leaving the states. No matter what. I don't know what happened, because it used to be only on larger packages or things beyond "normal" size that needed forms. So this mean all of my mail going to anyone beyond US borders has been delayed until I get to the post office to fill out forms. I'll be making a trip tomorrow so I will have to see just how many packages and letters are still sitting there instead of on their way.

I went in about two days ago, for the first time in a while, to send/pick up mail and was met with the same glaring look from the lady who seems to just love to make my life hell when I go in there lately. I had no less than five envelopes and four boxes waiting for me from last week that needed "proper documentation" before they would be sent.

I am rather ticked off and ready to start using my personal mail box, but I think that would only cause more delays if I have to wait for them to make it from the house to the main P.O. then back and out again. So I'm going to see what I can do about calling a customer service number someone mentioned to me and get to the bottom of it all. Either I have to fill them out, in which case I get a LOT of them and keep them at the house to fill out as I go, or I don't need them and someone at the office owes me an apology. (Not that I'd get it....heh)

I've missed a lot of deadlines for various mail art swaps and trades. I'm not one to flake out on things. I never join a group or sign up to participate in things unless I have every intention of following through with it. Life sometimes throws a curve ball and I may have to do double time to get things done, but I always get it done. There have been times when it's taken much longer than it should to complete something or I've been out of touch for a while due to unforeseen circumstances - but I've still made sure my part is done. This crap makes me look like I've not only not been available for contact (summer has been busier than all get out) but it makes it seem like nothing was ever sent!! *deep breath*

I'm not happy. I'm missing out on some fun things I joined in on over the last two months or so. Things I completely fulfilled but they'll never get the chance to be included because the post office held onto them. If nothing else they could have looked up my box info and called me to come in sooner to take care of the problem.

Eh, maybe that's too much to ask. All I know is this has made me want to stop all of the mailing period. I've contemplated finishing up whatever I can still complete with others then calling it quits. My mail has been bad in the past but not like this. It's flat out unreasonable now. I know of no one else (even overseas) who has this much crap to deal with when sending mail.

Ugh. Ok I need to stop ranting now. I'm going to be highly sarcastic and rude in a minute. I have to go get some housework done then pick up the oldest.

God help whoever answers my phone call later when I find the right number for the right customer service department. *growl*

ATCs galore [05 May 2006|08:23pm]
[ mood | accomplished ]

It's been a long time since I've posted my ATC stuff here. I've been trading pretty much exclusively on a forum I found last summer. It's been one heck of a BUSY art year since then, lemme yell ya! ^_~ I've made so many cards I couldn't begin to count. I'm in the process of setting up a new gallery/site for ALL of my ATCs, altered books, tins, shrines, art dolls, and everything else I do, but it will take some time to say the least.

In the meantime, I'll try to post a few here and there for those who are curious as to what in the world I'm up to anyway. I'll keep this post as low as possible....since I've made WELL over 100 ATCs in the last two or three months alone.

Let The ATC Madness Begin!Collapse )

Whoa [03 May 2006|11:25am]
[ mood | busy ]

Ok so I have loads to update and people to beg forgiveness from for not letting them in on art and mail news. *blush* Don't hate me. (Ok just don't throw things at me, how's that?)

Anyway, before I sit to give loads of art info, since it will take about an hour for THAT update, here's a pretty interesting and unusual story I found linked to from a favourite site of mine: [ Frog sweat - a possible cure for AIDS ] Yep you read right. I scratched my head when I first saw it, too. Kinda makes ya say "Hmmm" doesn't it?

Gas [18 Apr 2006|04:29pm]
[ mood | aggravated ]

No. I didn't eat too much Toxic Hell (Taco Bell). I'm speaking of the visits to the pump.

Gas prices are on the rise - again - and only seem to threaten to get worse. I noticed the price at the station closest to us has now reached $2.70 for regular grade. :-o While that may seem low compared to other parts of the coutry (and world) it's a $0.12 jump from just yesterday. ugh.

This really is more than just whining about not being able to drive up the road for less than five bucks. Really.

I was headed to yahoo to check mail and noticed an article on gas prices and what they could mean for our future. After seeing the increase in our town alone I can almost believe it!

Check it out:

Themed ATC Trade [21 Dec 2005|02:23am]
[ mood | tired ]

There are group swaps where we all send a set number of cards to a host(ess) and in return get the same number of cards back out of all the submissions.

There is also the "normal" one-on-one trades with two people trading an agreed upon number of cards.

I'd like to do something a bit different. It's been done before. I've just never had the guts to try it until now.

As many of you may already know, I absolutely adore frogs. *cheesy grin* I've decided I love them enough that I simply must host my own trade with ALL of you! That's right. Everyone who is willing and able......get ready to trade!

I wanna see frogs galore! :-)

Frazzled and Rushed [07 Oct 2005|01:05am]
[ mood | exhausted ]

Ok, I know. Here we go again, right? Well, at least this time I'm not asking you to send me gobs of info. (Unless you think/know I need it.)

Ever get into so much art that you forget the rest of the world and "life" as we know it blurs? Yep, I do it all the time. And....lately it seems life is getting its revenge. *sigh*

I'm aware of a number of trades I'm very behind on; and hope to get them all out tomorrow
(today - Friday).

Between sickness, out of town company, losing one vehicle, and gas prices going up and down (and now up again) by more than $.80 a day (!!!) - it's been near impossible for me to find the chance to slip away and get mail out and my personal errands done.

I deeply and sincerely apologize to those waiting more than two weeks for anything, especially prints. Those are some of the oldest trades I have left to get out to folks. My printer is effectively out of commission and I had to find a creative way to get them done without terribly compromising the quality.

I don't mean this to be "excuses" for why my obligations to other, very patient, artists are slipping. Only an example of life's curve balls I've been trying, unsuccessfully, to dodge in the last few weeks.

If you're in a trade with me (recent or old) and we have not been in contact in at least the last week about it, and you have not received my end of the trade, please don't be afraid to contact me about it. Chances are it got placed in a "waiting" pile ready to go but never made it out - for one reason or another. (I've not yet asked my other half to send for me, only pick up. This may change in light of these delays.)

I'm not offended by reminders. Only rudeness. And to date, I've not come in contact with a single rude soul with which I've traded. :-) So, by all means, remind me! I often need one (or two *blush*) when I take on so much art and so many "speed bumps" of life trip me up along the way.

A lesson to be learned for me. When trading...."pace yourself!" :D

Thank you for your time and patience! I cannot tell you how much I appreciate you all sticking with me so far. I'll do my best to make it worth it.

FInally!! I've managed to get a fix for my sub domain/URL issue. I'm happy to announce that Athame Art, the web site, now resides in it's own comfy, cozy server space with a nifty dns2go url to get ya there.

Lots going on [12 Sep 2005|11:27pm]
[ mood | tired ]

Well, it looks like Ophelia's either heading further north, or back out to sea. We're in the clear now. (let's hope it stays that way through the end of the year) Thank you all for your concern and kind words.

I've been painting, bowling, getting ready for SCA activities, making cards, envies, working on my FIRST ever zine (hellllp!! lol), and trying to organize all of the trade info from every.last.trade.ever.made. That's been a little of the last week or so here. I definitely got a load of cards made. I had to actually. I have a lot of swaps to get in by the middle or end of the month. Busy, busy, busy. I guess it's a good thing I got all my card stock cut into cards today. Over 1,000 ATC-sized cards waiting for me now. WooHoo! :-) My CTS is thanking me already. I can feel my fingers again. :-p

Hmmm, zines. I've toyed with the idea for some time. I decided to try a swap with a fellow Nnesser. I'm not sure she'll want to stick with me on it now though. It's taking me longer than I wanted. :-(

I was thinking about doing an itty bitty zine. Well, not really itty bitty. It's about 8 pages and just fits in the palm of my hand. It's not so small you can't read things. lol I just got a little carried away with the cutting and decided to make it a small one. I could use all the pointers anyone can give here, though. Like, do I use an index page? What is the smallest size acceptable for them? And anything else anyone has to contribute. I had more questions....but I'm sleep deprived and forget most of them now. Don't worry...I'll be back to pick brains later. :-)

I also need a little help with the trading organization thing again. (sick of me doing this yet? - I AM lol)

I am finding that I don't have real names and/or online names (or groups the trades were initiated from) correctly listed in some places, and want to be sure I've completed all trades from the last two months before I get into anything new.

If we completed, or agreed to a trade would you please e-mail me the following:

So...how was your weekend? Who's got new art?!?!?! (I'll share mine later this week.)

I'm off now. Must pass out. *yawn*

Those who have traded/are trading with me, please read. [25 Aug 2005|05:59pm]
[ mood | embarrassed ]

I have realized I have a few cards sitting here to be mailed off. I have also noticed I forgot to address the envelopes. *groan* So, this leaves me with a favour to ask of those who set up trades with me, if I may.

If you and I have traded at all, could you please E-mail me with the following info (the parts that apply):

ATC from you:

ATC from me:

Have I posted on LJ or e-mailed you that I received yours?:

Have you received mine?:

If no, please give your address again. I may have misplaced it *blush*

Anything else you think may be important for me to know.

I apologize to those who have been patiently waiting for my response to trades. I've been a little fuzzy-brained lately and am trying to make a list of info so I won't be so flighty later.

Many thanks for the help and understanding.
